Popular Anglesea restaurant, Captain Moonlite closed in early March. It turned out to be a positive for owners, Chef Matt Germanchis and Gemma Gange who put their focus in their takeaway business Fish by Moonlite. We checked in to see how they’re going and how their lives have changed, for the better.
After a breakdown in negotiations with the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club we made the decision to close Captain Moonlite at the beginning of March.
What was once a difficult and life-changing decision turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We were able to pay out our suppliers and leave entitlements and say thank you to our guests in a special farewell service. All of which we will be forever grateful for.
Simple things that our industry friends would not have had an opportunity to do with the ever-changing restrictions. We have been so fortunate to have a takeaway business at Fish by Moonlite ready to go, we were able to keep a portion of our team employed and continue to offer our services to the community.
How enjoyable spare time can be. Going from an 80 hour work week to 20 hours is pretty dramatic and I’m sure we won’t be the only ones that won’t go back to that lifestyle.
We are really lucky to be in lockdown in Anglesea, nature and the outdoors cannot be underestimated for your mental health.
We’re grateful to be safe and well and to be able to keep our team employed.
We’re trying to look at this period as a way to reset and have a new perspective on what it is to have work/life balance.

We pay respect to their elders, past, present and emerging.
